I've worked in marketing for almost a decade. During that time, I've worked for corporate B2B, B2C, and B2G. I've worked as a full-time employee, in contract roles, and as a freelancer.
While I'm incredibly proud of how far I've come in my career, I would have gotten to where I am a lot faster if I'd followed the advice I'm about to give.
Start building a portfolio
I have worked on many projects over the years that I have no record of because I didn't add them to my portfolio before I left the role.
I wish I'd have kept a note on statistics, wins, and challenges.
Whether you plan to go freelance or corporate, you'll thank yourself for keeping a solid portfolio. This will help you be successful in interviews and when pitching to clients.

Start building a personal brand
Start your personal brand now. I wish I had started posting on LinkedIn earlier or started posting on other social media platforms.
Posting on LinkedIn has brought me many work opportunities. I've also built up a network of like-minded individuals, and it's such a nice place to be.
Don't worry about what anyone thinks unless it's your target audience.
Following from my last point
Stop caring about other people's opinions on building a personal brand, starting your business, building a portfolio, etc.
It's crazy not to put in the work for your career because you're worried about the opinions of people who aren't going to benefit your career in any way. But we all do it because we're worried about what people think of us.
As long as you're not hurting anyone, don't let other people's opinions hold you back from having your dream career. We get one life, and we're all going to die one day (as morbid as that sounds).
